![]() It happens to everyone. It may be sudden, or it could be long and drawn out, but sooner or later we all have to deal with the death of a loved one. And when it happens, you can feel so alone. But now GriefShare is there to let you know that you are not alone. This new ministry being launched in our church is a 13 week Christ-centered seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of a loved one. The group will be sponsored and facilitated by people who understand the experience of a loss and want to offer encouragement to others. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 14, at 2:00 pm in The Well in Building A. The first cycle officially begins on May 21, and will meet each Tuesday through August 6, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. The day and time are subject to change depending on the needs of those who express interest in participating in the group. Each session of the program includes a video seminar and small group discussion. GriefShare videos feature interviews with authors, counselors, speakers, and pastors with expertise in grief recovery. Participants will receive a workbook with devotionals and weekly journals. Additionally, participants will have access to valuable GriefShare resources that will assist in recovering from their loss and rebuilding their lives. While it is recommended that participants attend every session from the beginning, the sessions are self contained, so individuals may join at any time during the 13-week cycle.
Group facilitators will be Gail and Guy West and Angela and Carey Pitts. The vision for this ministry began with a WMU program presented by a GriefShare facilitator from a sister church and attended by Gail and Angela. By the end of the presentation, both women realized that God was planting in their hearts and minds the desire to implement this ministry at First Baptist Church. After reviewing the leader information from GriefShare, both Guy and Carey decided they also wanted to be a part of this Christ centered ministry.
